John and Julie approached Summit Granny Flats, with the request to build a modern, easy-care home behind their existing house in Bateman.

They wanted an independent living solution, that would allow their daughter, her husband and their young daughter to reside in the main house to access the wonderful schools in the area.

John and Julie were sure that they wanted their granny flat to be a “real home” with all the amenities and aesthetics of a modern home.

During the planning stages, their Design Consultant carefully assessed the lot and took into consideration the original home’s orientation as well as the location of the garage and boundary fence.

Both John and Julie felt “the design experience was very good. We chose a standard design we basically liked, then were able to mold and tweak it on screen and review the effects immediately. We were given excellent advice while being able to have a real say in the final product”.

The home was built using innovative construction techniques including steel framing and Masterwall – which is well known for its excellent thermal properties and speed, when compared to the traditional double brick construction method.

Cleverly located adjacent to the garage at the rear of the lot, meant the couple enjoy a private entry, as well as landscaped gardens that can be savored all year round from the views of the covered alfresco.

“We are delighted with the end result.  It feels very much like a home ” John said.
